On May 8th, 2024, shortly after 1:00 pm, a Coweta County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Deputy initiated a traffic stop on a Nissan Sentra in the area of W. Highway 16 and Bibb Rd. During the traffic stop, the Deputy learned that the driver, Antavious Boyd, had a suspended license and refused to obey lawful orders from the Deputy.

The driver fled from the scene of the traffic stop and proceeded toward Newnan Bypass. Stop Sticks were deployed in the area of W. Highway 16 near Mayo Royal Rd. with the Sentra continuing to flee. A PIT Maneuver was performed on the Newnan Bypass near Hospital Rd. The Sentra struck another vehicle. At this point the driver fought with deputies briefly before being detained and placed in the backseat of a Patrol vehicle.

While Deputies were checking on the welfare of the passengers in the struck vehicle, Boyd, while still in restraints, made his way into the driver’s seat area of the Patrol car and fled that scene. CCSO Deputies pursued Boyd, using a second PIT Maneuver in the area of Highway 70. Boyd exited the Patrol car and fled on foot into the woods. Deputies chased Boyd into the woods where he was taken into custody.

There was one patient transported to the hospital with minor injuries. Georgia State Patrol is working the motor vehicle accidents.
